Joe Perry was on the radio this morning on WAXQ-FM - Q 104.3 (NYC) The Radio Chick show with Chuck & Butch Note: I was driving when I was listening to this, so I hope I don't screw up the story.
Back in the '70s Joe had to sell his prized guitar because of his drug problem. It was an expensive guitar and it changed hands a number of times so Joe wasn't able to keep track of who it's current owner was. Because of the history & sentimental value of the guitar, Joe wanted it back. A bunch of years later one of his crew showed Joe an article in a guitar magazine that showed Slash's guitar collection and Joe's guitar was one of them.
When Aerosmith played a gig with GNR, Joe asked to buy the guitar back from Slash. Slash said "No" because of the guitar's history. Joe and alot of mutual acquaintances tried to talk Slash into selling it back to Joe. For three years Slash dodged Joe's pleas.
Then during a tour that Joe was doing with Cheap Trick, Joe's wife threw him a birthday party and someone from CT presented Joe with his guitar as a present from Slash.
Side bar: The interview ended with one of the guy interviewers making a joke about how Axl had one of this guy's bandannas and how the guy has been hounding Axl to get it back. To which Joe Perry replied: Good luck with that.
