Heart, Featuring Mike Inez and Gilby Clarke, Live Clio, MI on July 17th, 2003

Okay -- Before I get my balls busted, the only reason I am sending this is because Heart now has two guys in the band that have logged many riffs with some rock-worthy acts. Yes, I'm talkin’ about Gilby Clarke on lead guitar (you know, GNR) and Mike Inez on bass guitar (Alice in Chains and Ozzy).
Let me set the stage in Clio (yeah I know what the fuck is a Clio), just north of Flint... a little sleepy town that decided to build some bleachers and bolt down a few seats and then book some 2nd bill acts and have some fun. And have some fun is exactly what Heart did... they took on a decisively harder edge with the addition of Gilby and Mike and proceeded to rock the house by playing not only their own rockers... of course – “Straight On,” “Magic Man,” “Barracuda,” “Even it Out” -- but also threw in a huge rendition of Zeps' “Black Dog.”
They played four new songs of an upcoming CD that, for the most part, rocked like Heart of old instead of the sappy power ballads that we have grown accustomed to. I think Gilby and Mike added a more credible bluesy-rock sound to the band which lended to their attitude of rockin’ out versus playing it safe and being the top 40 radio band that recently comes to mind for them. As for the drummer and keyboard guy, they played well but I didn't catch who they were (sorry guys).
Not only can the two ladies fucking sing, but Nancy did a great job on the acoustic parts of the night by playing solo on many occasions, and even picked up a mandolin and her and her sister did a monster cover of Zeppelin's “Battle of Evermore.”
It was a great night and the band seemed energized more than I expected and for those of you who live close enough to drive to Clio (Flint), MI you gotta come and check this venue out.
