I loved "Pawnshop Guitars" so much that when "The Hangover" came out, I couldn't bring myself to buy it because I knew I would be disappointed. I know that sounds stupid, but I was young and poor, and it's hard to spend $17 on an album you're afraid of. So I have waited for years to find some new Gilby material used. A couple of weaks ago, I bought "Swag". Although not as good as "Pawnshop", it is really good. So I went to ebay and got his whole catalog. I received "Rubber" today, and Jesus, this album sucks. Does anyone actually like this album?

I definitely agree that it's not very good. But I wouldn't say that it sucks. It's probably hands down his worst solo album, but I can think of tons of other albums and bands that are far more worthy of being labled sucky.
By the way, if you're purchasing Gilby's entire catalog, make sure to pick up "Rock n' Roll Music" by Col. Parker. Absolutlely a must have.

The only Gilby album I own is Swag, which I recieved about 2 weeks ago, and I love it. As compared to the others, what is it's ranking in the complete collection? Basicly what I am asking, is whats worse and whats better? Thanks!

I have the Col' Parker album, and it's pretty good. As for the question about Gilby's best stuff, I don't think you can beat Pawnshop Guitars.

Rubber is a fantastic album. I would say my 2nd fav. The covers of Trash and Mercedez Benz are simply superb. Kilroy Is Here, Sorry I Can't Write A Song About You, Superstar, The Hell's Angels and The Haunting are all well above average songs. But for me my favourite songs on it are Bourbon Street Blues and the really really great Frankie's Planet.
I think the Guns N'Roses fans loved Pawnshop Guitars because it sounded like a GN'R album whereas the Gilby Clarke fans like the llater albums.

I just picked up Rubber this past month - and I have to say that I was disappointed with it as well. But, I'll give it a few more listens. To complete my Clarke collection I still need to pick up Col.Parker & Rock Star Supernova.

I think you'll like Col. Parker. I still haven't bought Rock Star Supernova either.
