Syndicated radio shock jocks Opie and Anthony have been fired after airing an outrageous sex prank inside New York's famed St. Patrick's Cathedral. Following public outcry, complaints from the Catholic League and an investigation by the FCC, radio giant Infinity Broadcasting and New York-based station WNEW-FM have pulled the plug for good on the controversial duo following the Aug. 15 show, the New York Daily News reports. The pair (real names: Gregg Hughes and Anthony Cumia) featured a contest rewarding listeners for having sex in public places, and they aired an eyewitness account of a Virginia couple allegedly engaged in sexual relations in the vestibule of the cathedral. The contestants, Loretta Harper and Brian Florence, were arrested, as was a show producer who broadcast the stunt via cell phone. According to the Daily News, Infinity pulled the show off the air and suspended two station executives while they investigated the incident. Catholic League president William Donohue tells the Daily News he plans to drop his complaint to the FCC now that Opie and Anthony have been canned. This isn't the first time the deejays have been fired: They were let go by a Boston station in 1998 following an April Fool's Day hoax in which they announced that Mayor Thomas Menino had died in a car crash.

I'd probably go for an unpaid leave for them and the show's producer.

NY POST/John Lehmann --The woman who allegedly took part in a sex romp in St. Patrick's Cathedral has apologized - but she still claims she didn't get down and dirty in front of worshippers. "We didn't mean to come up there and have disrespect for the church," Loretta Lynn Harper, of Virginia, told the TV show "Celebrity Justice." "We really didn't realize how serious this was." Harper, 37, and her boyfriend, Brian Florence, 35, caught hell after the escapade in September, organized by the "Opie and Anthony" radio show. She said the stunt ruined her life - and claimed she went to the church only to use a restroom. Harper, who said she's a churchgoer, took a swipe at the sacked radio hosts. "Opie and Andrew are out there with their $30 million contract living the good life," she said.
