Aug. 17 was Clarke’s 50th birthday, when family and friends gathered at Pappy and Harriet’s for an afternoon lunch and celebration. Afterward, two saloon girls, Charmin Camen and Hotdang Holly, escorted Clarke down Mane Street where he was confronted by members of Gunfighters for Hire and immediately identified as Gilby “Noisy” Clarke. Clarke was handcuffed by Marshal Bushwacker, then escorted to the jail where he was given the chance to outdraw one of the gunfighters, Dirty Dave Skoalfield, as a means for being absolved of his crimes. Clarke, unfortunately, was unable to pull a gun from the holster and lost to Dirty Dave. Clarke was then taken to the local hangin’ tree and measured for a snug fit with a one-size-fits-all noose. At this very moment, a pony express rider arrived with a pardon. Clarke’s wife, Daniella, was sworn in as an honorary deputy, signed the pardon, and delivered the pardon to Clarke. He was then released into the custody of his family and friends where he was entertained by Gunfighters for Hire with a gunfight show which included a skit portraying the duel between Wild Bill Hickok and Davis Tutt on July 21, 1865. Gunfighters for Hire perform free shows on the first four Sundays, April through October, in Pioneertown, at 2:30 p.m. Visit gunfightersforhire.org for more information
