Friday I went to see Collective Soul in Pontiac ,MI at the Arts, Beats, and Eats Festival. I'm not a huge fan and I don't have any of their CDs, but I've always liked their music and I know about 10 of their songs because they get played on the radio quite a bit here in Detroit.
They did (not in this order):
Heavy December Run The World I Know Where The River Flows Why Pt. 2 Gel Precious Decleration Shine Energy
They also did 2 or 3 new songs and a couple older ones that I didn't know. They played from 8:45-10:00. They sounded really good and best of all it was free admission. All anyone had to pay was the $5 parking fee.

I would have loved to see Collective Soul. I wasn't even aware they were still playing. Is Ross still in the band?

Ross isn't in the band. The other four guys are the original members, but they have some new guy (who looks alot like Ross) playing lead.
They said that they have a new album coming out very soon.

I saw Collective Soul at New Years, here in Niagara Falls they were the headlining act along with the Trews, what a great show! Although I am not too aware of their songs by name, they had some amazing ones, I really like them. They also did highway to hell! Hahaha, great night!

I was looking back at my collection this year - just cleaning house and decided to start filling out my back catalog. I put on Collective Soul expecting to hate it....but it still hit home emotionally. Out of the band's new releases - Afterwords (2007) is my favourite. But their latest self-titled album (2009) recalls their straight forward rock days. Good news is Collective Soul are currently in the studio making a new record but to tie things over - check out Ed Roland & The Sweet Tea Project. A great pop-southern roots album that came out this year.
