I was wondering if any of you guys might be willing to help me settle an argument my brother-in-law and I are having. We totally disagree on who the top 5 greatest guitarist of all time should be. We especially don't agree on who deserves the number one slot! I looked at the Rolling Stones Magazine article on the Top 100 greatest guitarist of all time, but I was wondering what some of you guys thought. ( I will say that my instrument of choice is the bass guitar, but my brother-in-law and I agreed on the best bass players of all time. I am not sure it is quite as debatable. But, if you would like to list your favorite bass players that would be cool too.) Thanks for your input!

Hahaha, nice list Chris Axl! Yours looks pretty solid GA. I guess mine (on a whim) would be:
1. Clapton 2. Hendrix 3. Joe Perry 4. Slash 5. Rusty Cooley
I don't have Page on here because although I like listening to Zepp stuff, I've never bought an album or anything so I can't first hand say how "amazing" he is- but he's awesome and very skilled. Also probably the only reason I've got Slash up there is because of that one solo he does on the UYI Tokyo DVDs with the talk-box where he just rips... it's amazing. Hendrix/Perry/Clapton are pretty self explanatory. Then Rusty Cooley is just a shred-freak! Check some of his samples out on You Tube if you haven't.. as a guitar player it just scares me how someone can play that fast, hahaha.
Anyway that's my quick-list!

Thanks for your help! But, I'm not sure we will ever solve this argument. I think my brother-in-law and I are going to have to agree to disagree!

I never really noticed this subject before. I cant beleive no one listed Ace ! OMG, how can Ace Frehley not be mentioned. Kiss was the first concert I ever saw. Once you see him do Rocket Ride, ya just gotta put him on the list.
